Golden Temple Amritsar

History of the Golden Temple:

Founded by Guru Ram Das Ji (the 4th Sikh Guru) in 1577, who began work on the Amrit Sarovar (Holy Tank).

Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the 5th Guru, completed the construction in 1604 and installed the Adi Granth Sahib (holy scripture) inside the temple.

The temple was open to people of all religions, symbolizing equality and unity.

It was rebuilt several times due to destruction during invasions, especially by Ahmad Shah Abdali.

In the early 1800s, Maharaja Ranjit Singh donated gold and marble, giving it its signature look — thus the name "Golden Temple."
